Multidisciplinary Evaluation
The Cough Clinic offers a dedicated, joint evaluation of chronic cough, combining the expertise of an Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon and a Speech Pathologist specialising in middle airway dysfunction. Initial assessment will routinely involve fibreoptic nasendoscopy to examine the airway, with an aim to explore structural and functional airway disorders such as inducible laryngeal obstruction, airway stenosis, dysphonia, sinus disease, and post-nasal drip. This procedure is performed quickly and easily in clinic and the endoscopy fee is bulk-billed.
A thorough case history will also be taken so that we get to know your unique cough. The outcome of the joint evaluation will determine suitability to progress to rehabilitative cough therapy and/or the need for medical treatment or further testing. When indicated, referral to associated health specialists may be recommended, such as to respiratory physicians, gastroenterologists, allergists, physiotherapists and neurologists.
Our team-based, inter-disciplinary approach offers a collaborative, rounded assessment with patients benefitting from integrated care and shared expertise. Prospective patients are required to have a medical referral and we provide continuity of care with your general practitioner.
The Cough Clinic has partnered with Melbourne Ear, Nose, Throat & Airway Clinic (MENTAC) in Bulleen.
